This book is both a methodological guide for teachers and a teach-yourself book for students, a book for both intensive exam preparation – such as for the HSK – and a grammar reference book.
It presents Chinese in a systematic and coherent way, which enables rapid language acquisition. The most successful beginner student who used this book as her main resource passed the HSK 5 after one year of studying and the HSK 6 one year after that, studying Chinese for just two hours per week.
Unlike the majority of literature for learning Chinese as a foreign language, it is based on understanding instead of rote-learning and highlights frequent similarities with European languages instead of labelling Chinese as “totally different and impossible to comprehend”.
